MEET JEN TYSON
My name is Jen Tyson, I was born born and raised near Cleveland, Ohio. After High school I attended and graduated from, The Ohio State University, and received a bachelor’s degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences. After graduating I continued my education at Columbus State, in Deaf Studies and Sign Language Interpreting. After marriage and starting a family, we enrolled our children in survival swim lessons – and that experience changed my life. Not only did I see my children learning valuable life-saving skills, but I also found deep satisfaction in the verbal and non-verbal process by which these skills were taught. By choosing survival swimming as my career path, I found a challenging and deeply rewarding Behavioral Science career that I was meant for!
I have worked with children for over 25 years, and have developed my expertise in child care, behavior modification and developmental appropriate teaching practices. Having an educational background in Social Behavioral Sciences and Deaf Culture has shaped my approach to logically teaching children at their own pace without getting stuck when we work through learning a new skill.
In the past 8 years I have taught over 1000 children confidence and life saving skills in the water. Serval of my families have contacted me to say that their children have used their skills competently; of which 9 of those families have reported actual saves in deep water environments.
In 2019 our family moved to Kansas City, Missouri and we have loved getting to know our new home. Our family attends church, we love to camp and take adventures to places where we can hike, swim, ride motorcycles, and watch the sunset over a warm campfire. My kiddos keep me busy with piano, gymnastics, and becoming lovely young ladies. My husband loves his job in the power tool industry, while I really enjoy cooking for all our friends and family! I continue to be in awe of the life we all get to live together!
