About Lessons

Swim with Miss Jen is a swimming program is a 4-7 week course; with a focus on safe, customized, one-on-one lessons. These lessons emphasize health, ongoing program evaluations and parent education to deliver effective and long lasting results.  Children may begin lessons as young as 6 months of age.

Find the Float

Infants + Young Toddlers will learn the find the float skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest and breathe. They learn to maintain this position until help arrives.

Learn to Swim

When the instructor deems a child developmentally ready, they will learn to swim at their own pace. They will practice swimming until they need air, rotating onto the back to breathe, and then continue swimming. Students are taught to repeat this sequence until they reach the safety of the steps, side of the pool, or the shoreline.

Refresher Lessons

Refreshers are a vital part of lessons. If you come to lessons when your baby is 9 months old and never bring them back for refreshers, they may not retain their skills the way you hoped for. A growing baby/toddler/child needs the opportunity to practice their skills at each new developmental stage they are going through.

Children 6-18 Months:

Generally speaking, children ages 6 months to 18 months will learn to find the float, by rolling onto their backs to float, rest and breathe. They learn to maintain this position until help arrives.

Children who are mobile - any age:

Older, more mobile children will learn to swim until they need air, rotating onto the back to float, then rolling back over to continue swimming. This sequence allows a child to maintain a proper horizontal posture while swimming.
